Chain mail and metal plates over silk brocade.  The handguards are lined with red napped cloth.  The gourd-shaped plates, fukube, sometimes have compartments for storing medicines.  The East India Company had a station, or factory, in Japan for a short time before they were expelled. They tried to continue trading with Japan afterwards.
