The Cross Old & New
HB The Cross cir 1900 by kind permission of Howard Beard

At the top of the High street is an intersection of roads once known as 'The Cross'.

In centuries past, this was the real "Retail Centre" of Stroud. Events and gatherings were held here with all types of stalls.

In addition to Stroud's Well and pump, the local stocks were sited here; no doubt in direct firing line of the rotting vegetable pile.

Food and drink. A chance to meet and chat. Wares to buy and entertainment...

............... what more could shoppers want?
