Radio broadcasting began in the 1920s and Gloucestershire Schools were issued with "wireless receivers" from 1925 onwards. BBC Radio Gloucestershire commenced in 1980.

Although television was first broadcast in England in 1936, the first TV sets were expensive and poor quality. However the popularity of this pastime soon dictated that Stroud Council House tenants could erect TV aerials in 1950, providing that "they should be properly erected, and the tenant responsible for any damage occasioned thereby".
